CELEBRATES THE CAREER OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL TEXTILE ARTIST OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY

Anni Albers (1899-1994) was a textile designer, weaver, writer and printmaker, who was among the leading pioneers of twentieth-century modernism. Throughout her fruitful career she inspired a reconsideration of fabrics, truly establishing thread and weaving as a valid medium for art. In her later years, Albers took up print-making, translating many of her persistent themes and ideas into two-dimensional form. This beautifully illustrated book redefines her contribution to twentieth-century art and design, and highlights Albers'significance as an artist.
Contextualising Albers' early career at the Bauhaus, and her teaching years at Black Mountain College, this book will explore her most important works, illuminating Albers' skill as a weaver, her material awareness and endless creativity.
Ann Coxon is Curator of International Art, at Tate. Briony Fer is an art historian, critic, and curator. Presently she is Professor of History of Art at University College London.
Maria Muller-Schareck is Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at K20, Dusseldorf.
